Beijing Review

IRISH SPORTS COUNCIL: Wharton's Neil Tunnicliffe has been commissioned by the Irish Sports Council to conduct a review of Ireland's preparations for and performances at the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This work follows on from Wharton's conduct of a similar review following the Athens 2004 Games; our involvement in the subsequent planning and development of the new Irish Institute of Sport; and a mid-cycle review which was undertaken in spring 2007, which made a preliminary assessment of progress made against the recommendations of the Athens Review.
The Beijing Review will involve a further, in-depth assessment of the progress and results achieved by Ireland's athletes, and the developments made within the national and international infrastructure which supports them. Through a combination of statistical analysis, athlete surveys, and one-to-one interviews with key personnel, Wharton will compile a report with recommendations for the ISC for submission prior to Christmas 2008. This report will then help to shape Ireland's continuing high performance programme through to the London 2012 Games.
